Genesis 1:3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. 4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. * 5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
Hank Williams wrote a song in 1947 and it was released in 1948 called ‘I saw the Light’. It immediately became the finale to Hank’s shows but wasn’t an immediate hit. It eventually became a Country Gospel standard and has been covered by many singers.
Here is the song on YouTube
He wasn’t talking about the Sun, Moon or Stars, they weren’t created until the 4th day, or light bulbs or candles or fire or any other light source but Jesus. That is the same light that God was talking about in Genesis 1:3-5. That light on that first day was none other than Jesus Christ.
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
As a believer in Christ, one of his disciples, you too are the light of the world. Because Christ is the light, and He is in you, you, too, are the light of the world.
Matthew 5:12 “Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.” 13 “¶Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.” 14 “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.” 15 “Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.” 16 “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
Jesus did claim to be the light of the world and those that follow him do not walk in darkness but in light. This is a mental, philosophical, ideological and spiritual light. It is an all encompassing light that illuminates the soul.
John 8:12 ¶Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, “I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”
This is the light that consumed Hank Williams. This is the Light that God spoke forth. This is the Light God sent to this world. The physical light of the sun, moon and stars is pale in comparison to the Light of the World, Jesus Christ.
Light emanates from a source. And the further you get from the source, the dimmer it shines. That is man’s problem, we are so far away from the source, it is hard for us to see. We need to get closer to the source, Jesus Christ.
Do you know Him? Accept Him now before it is too late..
