What is a Christian to do?

I don’t usually do this kind of article in this blog as it may be a bit unseemly for a ‘Faith Studies’ type blog. However, I feel compelled to share my ideas with you and hope you can glean from that and increase your Faith. We live in perilous times and it takes us all pulling together to be over comers. And yes, Faith and Politics must go together.

Luke 20:21 And they asked him, saying, Master, we know that you say and teach rightly, neither accept you the person of any, but teach the way of God truly: 22 Is it lawful for us to give tribute to Caesar, or no? 23 But he perceived their craftiness, and said to them, Why tempt you me? 24 Show me a penny. Whose image and superscription has it? They answered and said, Caesar’s. 25 And he said to them, Render therefore to Caesar the things which be Caesar’s, and to God the things which be God’s. 26 And they could not take hold of his words before the people: and they marveled at his answer, and held their peace.

In this election year, we are faced with the most difficult election in our lifetime. We are given two choices, neither of whom we would choose. But we, as Americans, have decided on a way to produce candidates for President. We did not win in these campaigns. Or did we? Remember, it is God who is in control. Who knows the true mind of God on this matter? All we can do is to study His Word and follow it in our lives.

In this instance, we have committed as Americans, to vote for President. We are given 2 viable choices. Sure, there are many names that could be written in. I can think of no less than 25 names, both men and women, that I would much prefer over either of the two candidates. The likelihood of a write in candidate getting elected is slim to none. Usually, if a write in campaign has any success at all, it helps the very candidate you really didn’t want to win in the first place.

Writing in Franklin Graham for President would make you feel better. It would ‘fulfill’ your quest to vote as God would have you vote, as far as you are concerned. But is it really more of a stubborn way of not participating while still casting a vote so you can say you were involved when you really weren’t.

That reminds me of the folks that pass up the chance to be real men and women of God when there is prayer meetings at Church..or when there is a witnessing program going on. It is amazing how many people give lip service to both of those efforts without giving any real service to either. But they say they pray on their own.. and they witness as they go through the day.. and I am sure that is their intent, but you can tell a tree by the fruit it bears. God told us not to judge, but we certainly are to be fruit inspectors. We must do more than lip service. We owe it to our nation and to God to do what is right.

Voting your conscience is a very tricky thing. You can’t let your personal pride get in the way. You have to put down self and do what you committed to do as an American. Every soldier that has ever served made a commitment to follow and uphold and defend the Constitution. Our Constitution says we should vote. 1 man/woman = 1 vote. It wasn’t always that way. But it is now. The service men and women who actually or were ready to give their lives deserve better than a temper tantrum vote that makes you feel better. We should do what is best for our nation given the parameters we have to deal with.

There is approximately 3.5 months before the election. Yes, there could be a 3rd party rise up quickly. There is a lot of dissatisfaction with both political parties as they have both gone elitist and, in my opinion, anti American. In my opinion, there is one that is worse than the other. And yes, there could be that 3rd party, or one of the lesser parties, like the Libertarian Party, get very popular. I don’t see any that rock my boat just yet, but God works in ways we sometimes can’t fathom.

I have not made a commitment at this point. I have asked the question ‘How can you pray in the Holy Ghost and vote for Trump?’.. I already know you can’t and vote for Clinton. There is another question that must be asked. ‘How can I pray in the Holy Ghost and NOT vote for Trump?” Every vote that Trump doesn’t get makes it easier for Clinton to win. The same can be said the other way, but personally, I hope that is the case..

If an honest 3rd party comes to light, that is a real game changer. Perot could have been that changer in 1992, but we have no one that has started at this point, so I really don’t see that happening.

May we each come to God and pray for wisdom. May we all put our egos aside and look at the situation as God is looking at it. Then and only then we can vote our conscience. Do what is right in the sight of the Lord by doing what is best for our nation.

May God give you peace about your decision.
