What are you willing to do to be healed?

John 5:1 After this there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

2 Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches.

3 In these lay a great multitude of weak folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water.

4 For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatever disease he had.

5 And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years.

6 When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he said to him, Will you be made whole?

7 The weak man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steps down before me.

8 Jesus said to him, Rise, take up your bed, and walk.

9 And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath.

Jesus came to the Pool called Bethesda. There were many (great multitude) laying near the pool to try to be healed when the waters were troubled. These people all believed in the fact that if they got in the water when the water was ‘troubled’ they would be healed. They did believe in God healing them. Their point of contact was the troubled waters. If the waters were not troubled, they had nothing to believe in and remained unhealed.

Jesus asked him “Will you be made whole? The ESV says it like this.. “Do you want to be made whole?”. In the Amplified Bible it is even clearer. “6 When Jesus noticed him lying there [helpless], knowing that he had already been a long time in that condition, He said to him, Do you want to become well? [Are you really in earnest about getting well?]?”

That seems like a strange question to ask a man that has been laying there 38 years. Who wouldn’t want to be made whole? Who would not like to be healed? Well, there are several kinds of people that would fit into that category.

Category 1. Those that are deriving their income from their disability. One of the great things about Americans is we are more than willing to help those that can’t help themselves. We currently have a record number of people receiving Social Security Disability Insurance. Far too many are getting the benefits in a fraudulent manner but that is another day. There are those that depend on that income to provide the necessities of life. Food, rent, transportation, medicine.. etc. If they were healed, that money would be cut off. They would have to go to work. Do you want to be made whole?

Category 2. These are people that get their ego fed by people talking about ‘poor old so and so..’. They get plenty of attention and they love it. They are the central attraction and they are always asking for prayer and folks are more than willing to pray for them.. Do you want to be made whole?

Category 3. We go to the nursing home to visit a family member regularly. In the Nursing Home, there is a social order, pecking order, status and politics that you would never realize was going on without watching these folks. The family member has friends here that she would hate to leave. There is a structure and system that is constant and reliable. There is a set of ‘unspoken’ rules that everyone follows. It really is kind of funny to watch. But these people are set into their routine and are comfortable. Change would be the furtherest thing from their minds.

You hear them talking and they always wind up comparing illnesses and ailments. Each having to outdo the other with a more harsh illness or ailment than the other one. It seems that they are going to talk each other right in the grave. Do you want to be made whole?

Category 4. There are people that give assent to God’s ability to heal but don’t believe in their hearts it is for them. These are the unlearned. My people perish for a lack of knowledge. They don’t have their Faith developed to the point they believe God will heal THEM. Do you want to be made whole?

I am sure there are others but you get the idea. The looming question is the same as what Jesus asked the man at the Pool of Bethesda, “Do you really want to be made whole?” We each have to answer that question. If you really do, you have to put action to your decision. You have to Rise, Take up thy bed and Walk…. on your own. No one can do it for you. God has already done all he is going to do. Your healing is there for the taking. Do you really want it?

What would you be willing to do to get a healing? A complete healing? Why have you not received your healing already? These are tough questions to answer. There is the ‘public’ answer you give in Church or elsewhere and then there is the ‘private’ answer you must give to yourself and to God.

3 John 1:2 Beloved, I wish above all things that you may prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers.

The key to healing lies with the prosperity of your soul. First and foremost, you must be saved. That is not negotiable. That is the stepping stone to all other of God’s many benefits. Your soul cannot prosper if it is not saved from eternal damnation. From there, your soul can prosper.. a little, a lot.. or all it can ask or think. That depends on you.

How do you get your soul to prosper? Great question. The answer lies in the Word. You put the Word of God in your heart, in your mind, in your soul. You meditate on it constantly. You walk through life doing what God says. You confess what God says about you.

Your speak over yourself what God says about you. Once you put the Word of God in your soul, you can speak that word, agreeing with God, affirming that what God says is true. Numbers 23:19 God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? You cannot go wrong saying what God has said.

Study the Word to know what God has said about your situation. If you need healing, study the healing scriptures. Here is a great source to get started. It is strictly healing and you can read the entire book in about an hour. It is free to download, and Sid Roth has several books for download. It is a great resource

I recommend reading Sid’s book, it is mostly scripture several times.. and read it regularly.. also listen to the two YouTube videos regularly as they are almost purely scripture.

Get God’s Word into your soul… then speak it forth. That is what the Hebrew word ‘meditate’ really means. Get it in your heart and soul and then speak it forth. Remember, Faith cometh by hearing.. and hearing by the Word of God. The more you speak the Word, the more you hear the word and the more your Faith grows.

In Luke 6:43-45 (ESV)        A Tree and Its Fruit

43 “For no good tree bears bad fruit, nor again does a bad tree bear good fruit,

44 for each tree is known by its own fruit. For figs are not gathered from thornbushes, nor are grapes picked from a bramble bush.

45 The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

Your words have a tremendous effect on your soul prospering. When you repeat what God says, your soul prospers. When you repeat what Satan and the world says, your soul is withering. Do you want your soul to prosper? That is the key to the Abundant Life that Jesus talked about in John 10:10 (ESV)

10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. I want that abundant life that Jesus is talking about. I am going to continue to put the Word of God first, put it in my heart that I might speak it and as my soul prospers, I will prosper and be in health.

Father, I pray that each person that reads this learns that they need to put YOUR Word first in their lives. There is nothing more important in our lives than your Word. Help us to put your word in our hearts and on our lips. May our “delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night.” (Psalms 1:2)

May everything we do and say be for your glory.

Amen and Amen.
